Tipping is part of daily life in Morocco: at restaurants and cafés, for guides and porters. For a massage or a hammam, many travellers wonder whether to tip, and how much.

Here are the customs, so you can decide with confidence.

Is tipping compulsory?

No. Tipping is never compulsory, and at Thai Kech the listed price is the price of the treatment. That said, it is very common in Morocco to leave a small tip when you are happy with the service.

How much should you leave?

There is no official rule. A commonly quoted guide is around 10% of the price of the treatment, or rounding up. For a 450 MAD massage, a tip of around 40 to 50 MAD is appreciated; for a treatment given by two therapists, such as the four-hands massage, remember each of them.

Dirhams or euros?

Dirhams (MAD) are the most practical currency for tips. Keep a few small notes and some change: 20 and 50 dirham notes are ideal.

And paying for the treatment?

At Thai Kech there is no online payment: you pay directly after your treatment. All our prices are on the prices page.

Other customs worth knowing

  • At a public hammam, people often tip the attendant who does the scrub.
  • At a restaurant, a tip of around 10% is common if service isn't included.
  • For a guide or driver hired for the day, the tip is given at the end.

Frequently asked questions

Is the tip included in your prices?

No. Our prices cover the treatment; tipping is up to you.

When should I give the tip?

The simplest way is to hand it directly to your therapist when you pay for the treatment.

Is a tip expected for an at-home treatment?

It is not compulsory. It is simply a way to thank your therapist if you enjoyed the treatment.
