Bright bedroom with a bed and cushions, set for relaxation

A babymoon or a trip to Marrakech while pregnant? A gentle massage can be a real treat, as long as you follow a few precautions.

This advice is general: it does not replace the advice of your doctor or midwife, whom you should consult before any treatment.

Ask your doctor first

Before booking, talk to whoever is following your pregnancy, especially if it is considered high-risk or you have a particular medical history. Many practitioners advise waiting until after the first trimester before having a massage.

Choose a massage designed for pregnancy

Not every massage is suitable. Avoid deep pressure, the intense stretches of Thai massage and vigorous scrubs. Our Gentle Mum-to-Be Massage is designed for pregnancy: slow strokes, neutral argan oil and 90 gentle minutes.

Positioning during the treatment

From the second trimester, lying flat on your back for a long time is often not recommended. The massage is then usually done on your side, supported with cushions. Feel free to change position whenever you are uncomfortable.

Heat, hammam and hydration

Marrakech can be very hot, especially in summer. During pregnancy, avoid high heat: hammams and very hot baths are not always recommended. Drink regularly and choose morning or late-afternoon treatments in the hot months.

For a hammam at home, ask your doctor before booking.

Warning signs: don't book

  • bleeding or unusual discharge;
  • contractions or abdominal pain;
  • fever;
  • sudden swelling of the face, hands or legs;
  • pain or warmth in a calf.

In any of these cases, skip the massage and contact a doctor.

Essential oils

Some essential oils are not recommended during pregnancy. Let us know you are pregnant: your therapist does without the diffuser if you prefer, and the massage uses neutral argan oil.
